If you want to do it the old school method, yes autoclave is the way to go. however, there are many new barrier methods like tattoo machine bags, clip cord covers, wash bottle covers, etc.. that when applied properly to your equipment will keep your workspace clean and sterile just as good as autoclaved equipment..
